Art Story. In 1982 Pierre-August Renoir who is known as a brilliant impressionist and the author of countless portraits who was just about to become a maitre met Richard Wagner and painted his portrait.
Wagner himself commented this work as “an embryo of an angel which an Epicurean had swallowed, thinking it was an oyster”.
Fortunately, Renoir received much more flattering though maybe less inventive reviews afterwards.
