Paints and Painting

The favorite three kinds of paints that artists use are watercolors, acrylics and oil paints.

1. Watercolors are inexpensive and clean up easily. However, many art teachers advise learning to paint with oils or acrylics, first. Watercolor can be very challenging for beginners.

2. Acrylics dry quickly, and clean up with soap and water. However, mixing acrylic colors can be difficult. Even straight out of the tube, acrylic colors can look artificial.

3. Oil paints are the time-honored choice among artists. They offer superior colors, longer drying time, better texture, and are extremely durable and lightfast.

Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments that are bound with a medium of drying oil. Traditionaly in Europe linseed oil was used.

Other oils occasionally used include poppyseed oil, walnut oil, and safflower oil.

Painters often use different oils in the same painting depending on specific pigments and effects desired. The paints themselves also develop a particular feel depending on the medium.

Drawing

Drawing is the act of making a design, picture or image and drawing is a visual art that makes use of any number of drawing instruments to mark a two-dimensional medium. Drawing also is an illustration that is drawn by hand and published in a book, magazine, or newspaper

People can use various tools like a graphite pencil, crayon, charcoal, pen and ink, wax color pencils, markers or chalk to draw a picture.

A picture made by drawing with a tool is also called a drawing (for example, illustration that is drawn by hand and published in a book, magazine, or newspaper).

Drawing as always been the essence of most art forms. Since the beginnings of mankind it has always been the closest form to nature. It is another form of language to express nature, creativity, (creativity which comes from nature and what we see) and mankind. Probably the earliest forms of drawing date back to the prehistoric cave paintings at Lascaux.

There are a number of subcategories of drawing, including cartooning, sketch (a quick, unrefined drawing), technical drawing or drafting...

An artistic drawing can be made as a preliminary step for a finished artwork, as a piece of art itself, or as information for future use.

Traditional drawings were monochrome, or at least had little colour, while modern coloured-pencil drawings may approach or cross the boundary (if there is one) between drawing and painting.
